Aya Metwalli is a Cairo-based vocalist, composer, and producer. Described as “a musical enigma” by The Guardian, Aya has self-published over 30 songs, amassing an impressive 3.5 million streams from fans on Soundcloud. Singing from an early age, Aya is known for her performances with the acclaimed ensemble Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart and was featured in Nicolas Jaar’s Sound and Light installation. Her compositions blend textures and unsettling soundscapes and microtonal scales with intense experimental pop vocals. Her recent work “Matkhafsh Menni”, featured on Pitchfork, as part of an artist benefit and mutual aid compilation dealing with the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion.
