Garba Tourè is a virtuosic guitarist and member of iconic Malian rock group Songhoy Blues, which was started amidst civil war in Mali. With the band, Garba boasts an electric musical style that combines Malian traditions, desert blues, and contemporary sounds from Western rock and pop music. They have toured widely, and have shared their story of resistance and solidarity not only in their music but also in various films and documentaries, including ‘Life Before Borders’, which brought to light challenges faced by African artists as they aim to make a living through their art.
