Born in Japan in 1995, Ryotaro Miyasaka is an impressive experimental percussionist, whose music and performance traverses genres and moves between music and non-music in a diverse range of settings and collaborations. He first began playing in high school after being inspired by live footage of the celebrated Japanese band the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Ryotaro’s recent live collaboration Dinosaur and Gems features acclaimed string player, improviser and composer Atsuko Hatano, and he has also collaborated with renowned Japanese experimental guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama. In addition to his performing life, Ryotaro has also worked as a researcher, having studied musicology of popular music, cultural studies and sociology of culture.
