OUR HISTORY
From grassroots beginnings in 2010, Found Sound Nation has grown into a global movement harnessing the power of collaborative music-making to bridge cultural divides and drive social change.
Over the past 15 years, Found Sound Nation has worked with a diverse array of institutions and partners, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Doris Duke Foundation, TED, MIT, The New School, and many more, to create music-centered socially impactful programming. These initiatives - from songwriting workshops with incarcerated youth to music-making & listening seminars for MIT entrepreneurs - cemented our belief in the transformative potential of co-creation across geographic, cultural, and demographic boundaries. In 2012, we launched OneBeat, a groundbreaking music diplomacy program in partnership with the U.S. State Department. OneBeat brought together outstanding musicians from around the world to collaborate, create, and develop new models for civic and social engagement through music.
Our immersive residencies, tours, workshops and installations have landed in over 160 cities in 38 countries around the world. Our robust network of over 600+ artist leaders are now leading over 1,000 initiatives that drive positive change in their communities, programming that includes youth education, civic engagement, conflict resolution, and climate action. Our work is empowering artists, educators, and activists worldwide to harness the transformative power of collaborative music-making. From city streets to remote villages, we aim to continue to redefine the role of music in fostering social change.
Founded by Christopher Marianetti and Jeremy Thal in 2010, Found Sound Nation began as part of the groundbreaking new music organization Bang on a Can. In its early years, FSN partnered with leading arts organizations like Carnegie Hall and local institutions like BCAM (Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School) to lead workshops that combined music and storytelling, helping young people navigate challenging moments in their lives.
