Traveling to Yogyakarta, Surakarta and Jakarta, Indonesia, FSN collaborated with young musicians who play traditional Javanese gamelan and the Portuguese-influenced style of kroncong. We also had the great honor to meet master musicians Sri Joko Raharjo, Slamet Gundono, Pak Sandardi, as well as American vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jen Shyu and Japanese composer Tomoko Momiyama.
Later that year, FSN took part in a similar project at a music school in Cuernavaca, Mexico run by songwriter and producer Nazario Meshoulam. We worked with teenage students to write and record a number of memorable songs, which can be listened to via Soundcloud.
While Artists-in-Residence with Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute's Musical Exchange program, the FSN team traveled to Indonesia and Mexico to lead youth workshops and interview master musicians.
